The Flint/Steel Striker measures approximately 1.2" x .56" x .3" (2.9cm x 1.4cm x .8cm). The embedded strong neodymium magnet, hidden inside, is strong enough to hold itself to the side of a tin like the one used for the TK micro kit to keep it from sliding around and damaging any charred cloth which may also be inside that tin. 

Important note: the tiny striker in this kit can be very difficult to use if one is not very skilled at using the typical large strikers!

Some technical information: All striker rods make use of O1 steel, chosen for it's composition. The O1 steel for the rods has been normalized, then heat-treated in a way to maintain the fairly unstable martensite, then somewhat tempered for a result which produces optimum sparks while slightly reducing some of the brittleness which would otherwise be present. As a result of the quenching, the face-centered cubic austenite transforms to a highly strained body-centered tetragonal form which is supersaturated with carbon.
